There was a post at Administration here that said that feature (which is controlled by admins, by the way) was to be temporarily disabled. Apparently there are some kinks with it that need to be worked out.
As for registration, there is no need unless you are very new. Simply log in. You will need to check your profile, however, especially if you have changed anything in it recently.
Regarding avatars: If you want the one you now have, you can upload it yourself as a custom avatar. Directions are in the "faq" section at the top of the page. One word of caution, though, which is a little something I discovered the hard way. The system currently resizes custom avatars to 96 by 96 pixels. So right now I have a short, fat dancing chick over there should I choose to activate it. At present this cannot be changed, but at some point I hope they will adopt a method like what we have now at the other board, where you can state the height and width desired. Concorde brought it up himself tonight over there when I mentioned my dilemma. I think he is still laughing his ass off picturing what my poor avatar looks like!!!
